Imagine That for children 3-5 year olds: Imagine That is designed for active, energetic, enthusiastic, and imaginative children ages 3 to 5. Imagine That! classes encourage socialization, sharing, and basic music concepts through group activities. Parents and siblings participate in last 15 minutes of each class. With weather as our learning theme, preschoolers will explore musical styles that range from Opera to American folk, and become more self-sufficient in a creative musical environment that integrates music, pretend play, storytelling, movement, and more.
Young Child 1: 5 and 6 year olds are introduced to singing, reading music notation, and writing music and rhythm. Through dances and games that focus on rhythmic development, they'll learn a keyboard instrument—the glockenspiel—which will be used throughout all the Young Child classes. Parents and siblings participate in the last 15 minutes of each class.
Young Child 3 (for children who have completed Young Child 2): Appalachian music is a featured musical style this semester. First, you and your child will build a two-stringed dulcimer instrument with materials that we'll provide. Then in class we'll learn to play simple melodies on the instrument you built together. We'll also explore rhythm concepts through dance with an introduction to the basic steps in jazz, ballet, and tap dances, as well as continue to learn more notes and songs on the glockenspiel, continuing to add to our notebook of songs we can play.
Family Time - multi-age family class: In Make Way for Music, families will sing, dance, and move their way through an exploration of several elements of music: beat and rhythm, concepts and contrasts (such as staccato and legato, high and low, the major scale, and arpeggios), the human voice, instrument families, and ensemble.
